Disable iPod Nano 6G Accessory Screen

Disable iPod Nano 6G Accessory Screen

I'm using an ipod Nano 6G to play music in my car (Fiat with rubbish Microsoft Blue&Me). It connects via the standard iPod cable directly to a usb port. My problem is that instead of allowing me to use the touchscreen to select songs, I get this:

I can't do anything on the iPod until I disconnect it, so I have to use buttons on the steering wheel to control it. Strangely, the iPod Touch and iPhones don't have this, they can be used as normal.
I assume it does this whenever it's connected to a dock as well. So does anyone know of some obscure setting to disable this?
